The FTUE (First-Time User Experience) is a ~12-minute cinematic, story-driven gameplay sequence that serves as players’ first interaction with Otherside. Set in Nexus, it introduces the tone, core mechanics, and central characters - Curtis and Blue, while establishing the foundational conflict between Soma (creation) and Chaos (destruction). Through guided exploration and gameplay, the experience teaches basic movement and interaction while emotionally grounding players in a surreal, escalating introduction to the Otherside universe.
A cinematic score blending digital and analog textures establishes a core atmosphere that reflects the layered, unpredictable energy of Otherside. The music builds and sustains emotional tension throughout the experience, guiding players through the escalating conflict between Soma and Chaos and reinforcing the feeling of a world perpetually on the brink of collapse.
