Inclusive motion design studio Bien partnered with DEPT to tell the story of Danny the Dolphin and Ellie the Egret—two best friends navigating a long-distance friendship for the first time. Through charming characters and playful design, the animation captures the emotional experience of staying connected from afar. The project highlights Instagram’s sharing and streaming features, encouraging users to keep their own friendships strong, no matter the distance.
A whimsical, Caribbean inspired score and delicate sound design bring warmth and charm to Danny and Ellie’s story. Light musical motifs evolve with each character’s journey, adapting to their changing environments, while soft ambient textures and expressive character sounds add personality and emotional depth. UI and message notifications are subtly added in to reinforce Instagram’s role in keeping them connected. The overall sonic approach was designed to echo the playfulness and heart of the animation.
